Via raffle, Capitals raise over $155k for charity with championship ring, exclusive Stanley Cup items

The Washington Capitals hosted the Ottawa Senators on February 26th. After falling behind 2-0, the Capitals scored seven unanswered goals in an emphatic victory.

That night, the Caps won big off the ice too. The Capitals hosted the winner of the Stanley Cup Championship Ring raffle, Bob Brown, and his wife Kate. Brown, who has been a season ticket holder since 2007, was presented with the bling by Capitals owner Ted Leonsis himself.

The raffle ended up raising more than $155,000 for charity.

All 31 NHL arenas will honor Ted Lindsay on their rink boards

The NHL announced that from March 7th until March 10th, all 31 NHL arenas will have a tribute to Ted Lindsay displayed on their rink boards. It was confirmed on Monday that Lindsay had passed away at the age of 93.

Following the news of Lindsay’s passing, Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was one of the first players to share his condolences.

The Greene Turtle at Capital One Arena will be closing at the end of the season

The Green Turtle in Capital One Arena will officially be shutting its doors on April 9th, when the Washington Wizards’ regular season comes to an end.

After 12 years, the location will become home to a new joint called “The Shell Raiser Lounge.”

Caps at Flyers pregame: House of Bryce

It’s a new world. The Washington Capitals are visiting Bryce Harper’s new home, Philadelphia. The Flyers are probably his new favorite team too, right? Does he want to bring them a championship too? Does he think the Phillies will have a bigger parade than the Flyers ever will? Will he continue to drive me up a wall even though I have never met the man and for all I know he could be a lovely person? I don’t care much about baseball, but I can’t seem to stand Bryce. Anyway, let’s go Caps.

You have an extra half hour to get your act together. Puck drop is at 7:30PM and you still have the option to stream the game from your devices on the My Teams app. Once the game is over, Peter will recap the whole dang thing for you.

The Capitals-Rangers game most watched NHL regular season game in over a year

The Sunday afternoon matinee between the Capitals and the New York Rangers ended up being a huge deal for NBC.

According to NBC Sports PR, Sunday’s Capitals-Rangers game averaged a Total Audience Delivery of 1.336 million viewers. This means that the game ranked as NBC’s most-watched NHL Regular Season game in over a year, excluding outdoor games. (2/18/18, Philadelphia/NY Rangers, 1.360 million viewers)

Mitch Marner celebrates leukemia patient’s seventh birthday with a birthday cake and hug

On Saturday, the Buffalo Sabres headed to Toronto to face off against the Toronto Maple Leafs. The Sabres were not the only special visitors that evening. Hayden Foulon was also in the building to celebrate her seventh birthday watching her best friend Mitch Marner.

Your photos with Tom Wilson from his autograph signing at Giant

In August 2016, Giant was named the exclusive grocery partner of the Washington Capitals.

As part of that deal, Tom Wilson made an appearance at the Giant in NW Washington to sign autographs and take photos with Capitals fans. Some fans waited as long as four hours to meet the winger.

And we have to be honest, your photos with Tom are #TopLineTremendous.

Alex Ovechkin’s ‘Running Sucks’ t-shirt is extremely relatable

The Washington Capitals flew home from New York last night after collecting four standings points against the Rangers and Islanders. Alex Ovechkin was picked up at Dulles Airport by his wife Nastya Ovechkina, who had dinner waiting for him at the couple’s Northern Virginia home.

While wearing a red RUNNING SUCKS shirt, Ovi was documented by Nastya eating borscht while his dog Blake tried to get a bite himself.

Alex Ovechkin shares his condolences after learning Ted Lindsay dies at 93

Monday morning, Sportsnet’s Jeff Marek reported that Hockey Hall of Famer and Detroit Red Wings legend Ted Lindsay passed away at the age of 93. Lindsay had been in hospice care and died overnight.

During his 17-year NHL career, Lindsay scored 851 points and won the Stanley Cup four times with the Detroit Red Wings. He also racked up 1,423 penalty minutes during his career with the Red Wings earning him the nickname “Terrible Ted”. He was the last surviving member of the famed “Production Line” with Sid Abel and right wing Gordie Howe.

Tributes to Lindsay are pouring in on social media. Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin was one of the first players to share his condolences before practice Monday.

Caps at Islanders pregame: Nuisance in Nassau

The Capitals are back on the road and they’re headed up north to face off against the New York Islanders. The Islanders are coming off a 6-1 win against the Toronto Maple Leafs (not to mention an absurd meltdown). Hopefully, they’re still tired since the game was only 24 hours ago.

There is nothing more I want in this world than to have a nice cocktail and watch the Capitals win in Long Island. Say your prayers, light your candles, do your lucky dance, or whatever you need for the good ~vibes.
