Logan Thompson was named to the 2025-26 NHL Second All-Star Team on Friday.
Thompson received the nod, voted on by the Professional Hockey Writers Association (which RMNB is not a part of), after the NHL’s general managers did not vote him in the top three for the Vezina Trophy, awarded to the league’s top goaltender. The postseason honor is the first of Thompson’s career, finishing behind just Andrei Vasilevskiy.
The 29-year-old backstop is the fifth goaltender in Washington Capitals franchise history to be named to a postseason All-Star team and the first since Braden Holtby in 2016-17.
Thompson made 58 appearances for the Capitals this past season, going 31-21-6 with a 2.44 goals-against average, a .912 save percentage, and four shutouts. The 58 games were the most he has played in a single season in his career and were 15 more than he played in the 2024-25 season.
According to MoneyPuck, Thompson was also the top goalie in the NHL in goals saved above expected, recording 29.3, which was the most by a goalie not named Connor Hellebuyck since Juuse Saros posted 46.7 during the 2022-23 campaign.
2025-26 NHL postseason All-Star team voting (goaltenders)

Outside of Thompson, the only other Capitals player to receive any votes for the postseason All-Star teams was defenseman Jakob Chychrun. After leading all defenders in goal-scoring (26), Chychrun received one third-place vote, finishing tied for 15th in voting.
