Monumental Sports Network’s Alexa Landestoy is getting ready to head off and become a mom.

The in-studio host for Washington Capitals broadcasts announced during pre-game coverage of the the Carolina Hurricanes game on Wednesday that she and her husband, Michael Landestoy, are beginning preparations for their baby girl’s arrival.

The pair originally announced that they were expecting their first child on October 21 with a due date in April.

“It’s been an exciting season for the Capitals and an exciting season for my husband and I as we are expanding our family,” Landestoy said in the video. “I’m sure you can tell from my growing belly that very soon we are expecting our newest addition. That means I’ll be taking some time away. But I just wanted to thank you incredible Capitals fans for the amount of love and support that I’ve received, from the messages to most genuine baby gifts and baby blankets, baby girl is already so spoiled and from top to bottom our entire family here at Monumental Sports Network, they’ve supported me one hundred percent through this entire journey and I can’t thank them enough. I’ll be back when I’m ready but I know one thing is for sure, that baby girl will have her red on deck hoping for a very long Stanley Cup run.”

In a post later on X, Alexa clarified that her contributions on TV are “not quite done yet, but we’re officially on baby watch”. She also thanked the Capitals organization “for their endless support.”

Alexa, originally from Valencia, California, first moved to DC from Texas in 2019, where she was previously a sideline reporter for Fox Sports Southwest. Her first role in DC was as co-host of “DC Sports Live,” a multi-platform sports talk and entertainment program for NBC Sports Washington.

She later began her current role with the renamed Monumental Sports Network in 2021 as host of the Washington Capitals pregame and postgame shows. Since then, she’s expanded her footprint, hosting Capitals Red Line and other special events for the Capitals. When time allows, Alexa also contributes coverage to the NHL and NHL Network.

Alexa’s maternity leave comes as Alex Ovechkin nears making NHL history and is three tallies away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goals record.
