Monumental Sports Network announces subscription plans for Capitals games

Monumental Sports Network, the fully rebranded NBC Sports Washington, went live in late September. The network has since hosted five of six Washington Capitals’ preseason games with the Leonsis-led channel showcasing new graphics, music, and programming.

The network took the next step on Tuesday, officially announcing its direct-to-consumer subscription membership plans for local fans that do not already pay for TV subscriptions.

The MSN subscription plans will include access to all live Capitals games being broadcasted by MSN this season.

Fans can purchase a monthly or annual membership priced at either $19.99 per month or $199.99 per year on the network’s website.

Newly rebranded Monumental Sports Network will air 69 Capitals’ regular season games this season

Monumental Sports Network, formerly known as NBC Sports Washington, announced their Capitals-related TV schedule for the 2023-24 season on Wednesday.

The regional channel will air 69 of the team’s 82 regular season matchups and five of their six preseason games.

That coverage begins on Sunday when the Caps square off with the Buffalo Sabres at Capital One Arena to open their preseason slate.

Monumental Sports Network officially goes live, completes rebrand from NBC Sports Washington

NBC Sports Washington is now officially Monumental Sports Network, completing a full re-brand that began last year.

The Leonsis-led channel posted several videos on social media and sent out a long press release, explaining the changes and enhancements for the new sports seasons. In short: new graphics, new music, a new studio, new (and the return of some popular) programming, and new production techniques are coming,

For Capitals fans, there will be no changes to the talent lineup for broadcasts. Joe Beninati and Craig Laughlin will continue to do play-by-play while pregame shows will feature Alexa Landestoy and Alan May.

Monumental Sports Network posted several teaser videos on social media to celebrate officially going live, showing off some of its epic new music and graphics.

‘Sweeter by the Dozen’: Watch the full documentary showcasing Hershey’s run to the franchise’s 12th Calder Cup

Buckle up for about an hour because the full documentary showcasing the Hershey Bears’ run to the franchise’s 12th Calder Cup, first aired on Monumental Sports Network, is now available to watch on the Capitals’ YouTube channel.

Entitled Sweeter by the Dozen, the special includes interviews with players, coaches, fans, etc. and tons of behind-the-scenes footage including clips of the Bears’ overtime, Game Seven win over the Coachella Valley Firebirds to bring the Cup back to Hershey.

Monumental Sports Network, formerly NBC Sports Washington, to officially debut September 20

The broadcast home of the Washington Capitals is about to debut a new look.

Monumental Sports Network will formally launch on Wednesday, completing a rebrand of NBC Sports Washington that was announced earlier this summer.

Besides broadcasting Capitals games, Monumental Sports Network also holds the TV rights for the Washington Wizards, Washington Mystics, and various other local teams. Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) fully acquired NBCSWSH last September.

Monumental Sports Network announces documentary of Hershey Bears’ Calder Cup championship run: ‘Sweeter by the Dozen’

Monumental Sports Network, the rebranded NBC Sports Washington, announced a new documentary that will be airing this week.

Entitled Sweeter by the Dozen, the special focuses on the Hershey Bears’ successful chase of the franchise’s 12th Calder Cup. MSN released a 15-second, trailer that includes behind-the-scenes footage of the Bears’ overtime, Game Seven win over the Coachella Valley Firebirds.

Sweeter by the Dozen will first air at 6 pm (EST) on Thursday, September 14.

Capitals broadcasters Joe Beninati, Craig Laughlin, Alan May, and Alexa Landestoy all win Emmys

NBC Sports Washington (which is becoming Monumental Sports Network in the fall) took home some hardware at the 65th Capital Emmy Awards. Joe Beninati won two Emmys Saturday night for his outstanding work as the Capitals play-by-play announcer, including an individual award for Best Sports Play-by-Play.

With this year’s victory, Beninati has now won the Best Sports Play-by-Play award for 10 straight years and 17 times overall. He’s received around two dozen Emmys over his stellar career in DC and was the 2020 Board of Governors Award honoree.

Beninati wasn’t the only winner on the Capitals’ broadcast team. Color commentator Craig Laughlin, host Alexa Landestoy, and analyst Alan May all also received Capital Emmys for their work covering the Caps.

NBC Sports Washington will officially rebrand as Monumental Sports Network in September

Monumental Sports & Entertainment (MSE) announced on Wednesday that they will be rebranding their regional sports network NBC Sports Washington as Monumental Sports Network starting this coming September.

MSE fully acquired NBC Sports Washington, the TV rights holder of Washington Capitals, Washington Wizards, and Washington Mystics games, last year. At the time of the acquisition, the company majority owned by Ted Leonsis, announced that this rebrand would arrive for the 2023-24 season.

The rebrand is the first tangible step taken by MSE to build their own powerful streaming platform that will give them the ability to shape the primary coverage of their own sports teams.
