Craig Laughlin will be back on the call for Monumental Sports Network’s broadcast of Game 5 between the Washington Capitals and Montreal Canadiens, Wednesday.
Laughlin made the announcement on social media Tuesday after missing Games 3 and 4 on the road in Montreal. Locker, who had open-heart surgery in early February, was not feeling well after being back in the broadcast booth for a month straight.
“Hey #ALLCAPS fans. Heart surgery recovery has its ups and downs…but I’m back to 100% and getting my notes ready for Game 5!” Laughlin tweeted. “Looking forward to being back in the booth tomorrow with my @MonSportsNet family. Let’s go Caps!”
Laughlin attached a photo of his Sharpie’d game notes that he prepares for each Capitals game.
Alan May filled in for Laughlin as the network’s color commentator for the two games in Montreal and will return to his role as a studio analyst on the pre and post-game shows.
The Capitals could move on to the second round with a win in Game 5 after going up 3-1 in the series over the Habs on Sunday night. After the first round, all playoff games will be exclusively carried by the league’s national TV partners, so Game 5 could be the last we see of Joe B and Locker calling a game until next fall.
