Washington Capitals fans will be without Joe Beninati play-by-play for one more game.
The Simply-Sensational Suit’d One announced on his X account that he will miss Sunday’s Capitals-Blue Jackets game as advised by his doctors. Though, and I can’t be sure, it appears Joe B might be — and let me know in the comments if I’m wrong here — attending The 2025 Masters at Augusta National.
“There is no truth to the rumor that I have been at Augusta National this week,” Beninati said. “Doctors have advised me to miss tonight’s #ALLCAPS game and return to work on @MonSportsNet Tuesday on Long Island. I hate missing games, hate it, and what’s the best route from Georgia to N.Y.?”
He then posted a photo, suspiciously, from a golf course of some kind.

Capitals radio voice John Walton, who did a splendid job on Thursday, will replace Beninati in the TV booth and call the game with Craig Laughlin. The Hershey Bears’ Zack Fisch will have the call of the Capitals’ game on the radio.
The Capitals pregame show will also be without Alexa Landestoy, who began her maternity leave at the end of last week. Landestoy is expecting her first child, a baby girl.
This marks the third-straight Capitals’ game without Beninati. After sitting out Thursday’s matchup against the Carolina Hurricanes on Thursday, he also missed Saturday’s Capitals-Blue Jackets game in Columbus due to it being a national exclusive on ABC/ESPN.
Update (4/15): Beninati will miss another game, Monumental Sports Network’s final regular-season broadcast this year.
