Thursday’s set of NHL playoff games only included three fixtures, two from the east and one from the west. Lets see what went down in all of them.
Toronto Maple Leafs 4, Boston Bruins 1
- First things first, the Leafs won this game 4-1 and that’s hilarious because memes.
- Mitch Marner became just the fifth NHL player to score a shorthanded penalty shot goal in the postseason. The other four to do so were Wayne Gretzky, Petr Klima, Neal Broten, and Dan Cleary.
- Patrick Marleau played in his 185th career playoff game, passing Brendan Shanahan and Bobby Smith for sole possession of 28th all time in postseason games played.
Washington Capitals 4, Carolina Hurricanes 2

- Playoff Ovi is scary.
- John Carlson recorded three assists in the first period alone and that tied an NHL playoff record for most assists in a period by a single player.
- Andrei Svechnikov (19 years, 16 days) became the youngest player to score at least two goals in a playoff game since former Caps fan favorite Dainius Zubrus (18 years, 329 days) did so in 1997 with the Philadelphia Flyers.
Calgary Flames 4, Colorado Avalanche 0
- In 20 career playoff games, Mike Smith has a ridiculous 94.7-percent save percentage. He got the shutout in this one and even out-scored the entirety of the Avalanche with an assist on Matthew Tkachuk‘s goal.
- Poor Philipp Grubauer now is 1-2 in his playoff career (five games played) with a 3.85 goals against average and a 85.5-percent save percentage.
- Andrew Mangiapane is the first Flames player to score a goal in their playoff debut since Mike Cammalleri did so against the Chicago Blackhawks in 2009.
