Were you out with all your friends tonight instead of watching the Caps game? Did you record the game to watch later? Let us save you some time and make sure you fast-forward to the third period.
Saturday night in DC, the Capitals faced off against the Philadelphia Flyers for the final time this season. The Flyers are currently fighting for a playoff spot and are facing a very tough schedule for the rest of the year. Yikes.
There were scrums and penalties in the first period. There were also some penalties in the second period. Finally, the third period showed up and so did Sean Couturier and Dmitry Orlov. The game ended 1-1 in regulation.
Overtime happened and Nick Backstrom pulled through during a power play.
Caps beat Flyers 2-1!
- Justin Williams came to FIGHT tonight and landed a crazy punch on Nick Cousins.
- Tom Wilson also showed up to fight tonight but, more importantly, he came to sacrifice his body.
- Early in the second period, a fan was struck by a puck and Alex Ovechkin made sure to supply towels ASAP.
- For the second game in a row, the Capitals were tied 0-0 at the end of the second period.
- Not entirely sure what is going on in the Verizon Center, but there is now a Chapstick toss?
A lip balm toss at the @Capitals game. Because let’s go chaps(tick), am I right? pic.twitter.com/rRN0UIWkh6

- The Flyers barely stayed on top of the Capitals in shots on goal tonight. Ended the first period with 7-6 and ended the second with 13-12.
- Bad offensive turnover from Ovechkin and horrible coverage from the defense lead to the first goal of the game from the Flyers.
- Quick goal to tie the game 1-1 from Dmitry Orlov as he used Gudas as a screen against Mason.
- Alas, Orlov taketh away and was sent to the box for a high stick with 3:13 left in the game. The game ended 1-1 in regulation.
- Steve Mason looked incredible. Yes, you read that correctly.
- TJ Oshie set an excellent screen for Nick Backstrom to score the winner. Kevin Shattenkirk got his first point as a Capital with the assist.
- At the end of the day, no matter how horrible some moves might be from the Washington Capitals….they are not the Colorado Avalanche.
