Report: Dylan Larkin could be traded by the Detroit Red Wings as soon as next week

Dylan Larkin continues to take the ice for the Detroit Red Wings this season despite a well-documented trade request, but that could change soon.

According to ESPN’s John Buccigross, Larkin could be on his way out of Detroit by as soon as the end of this month. Buccigross shared the rumblings and rumors he’s been hearing about Larkin on a recent episode of hockey insider Frank Seravalli’s Frankly Hockey.

“I think there’s going to be a trade within 7-10 days in Detroit,” Buccigross said. “I got a little bit of information last night that tells me we’re going to see a trade. Things are happening in the lineup.”

Seravalli then asked Buccigross to confirm whether he meant Larkin or Red Wings defenseman Simon Edvinsson, who is still out of action as a contract holdout, and Buccigross confirmed he meant Larkin.

Detroit’s interim general manager, Shawn Horcoff, is asking a high price for Larkin. TSN’s Darren Dreger reported earlier this week that the Red Wings want “three or four pieces” in return for Larkin: two “A-quality prospects,” an active top-nine NHL forward, and a first-round draft pick.

Larkin hasn’t been moved yet because he has a short list of teams he would waive his no-trade clause for, and most are contenders that don’t have the assets Detroit wants. Rumored to be on that list of clubs are the Vegas Golden Knights, Minnesota Wild, Florida Panthers, Colorado Avalanche, Washington Capitals, Tampa Bay Lightning, and Dallas Stars.

This past summer, the Stars were thought to be Larkin’s top preferred landing spot. Dallas announced Monday that veteran forward Matt Duchene underwent surgery to repair a core injury and will miss the next three months. He had been dealing with the injury during training camp and was placed on long-term injured reserve after the preseason.

So far this season, Larkin has recorded three points (1g, 2a) in six games for a Red Wings team that currently sits outside of the playoff picture after a 3-3-2 start to the 2026-27 campaign. One of his major gripes with the team, which he captained until he saw that role stripped after his trade request, is that they haven’t qualified for the NHL postseason since the end of his rookie 2015-16 season.

Just last season, the 30-year-old Larkin showed he’s still an elite contributor, recording 67 points (34g, 33a) in 74 games, his fifth straight year scoring at least 30 goals.
