The Washington Capitals dismissed the Anaheim Ducks 7-4 in the first game of their road trip. Now they’re in Los Angeles to vanquish the Kings in La La Land. And gosh is it late (10:30 pm).

Former Capital Darcy Kuemper will start against the man who took his full-time starting job last year, Charlie Lindgren. Tonight’s game also marks the return of Pierre-Luc Dubois to where he played last season. Lars Eller is playing in his 1,100th career NHL game.

Also keep an eye on that Alex Ovechkin fella, who is is currently at 886 career goals — 9 away from breaking Wayne Gretzky’s NHL goals record.

The Capitals are 11-2-1 against the Pacific Division this season.

Puck drop for the Caps-Kings game is set for 10:30 pm on Monumental Sports Network. Joe Beninati and Alan May have the call. It’s an #RMNBAfterDark night so please get weird in the comments (not too weird) and share your sleepy pet photos.

Tunnel shenanigans

1st Period

Puck is dropped.

Pierre-Luc Dubois is getting booed every time he touches the puck by the Crypto.com Arena crowd in LA. Honestly, I like it.

Philip Danault to the box for slashing Taylor Raddysh at 8:41.

Caps got nothing going on that power play.

🚨 1-0 Los Angeles Kings. LAK Goal: Warren Foegele (19). Assists: T. Moore (17). Time: 13:08.

Foegele scores in front of the net to give the Kings an early lead. Caps lost a battle along the end boards.

Gavrikov slashed Protas’s stick completely in half as he gained the offensive zone. Caps back to the power play.

At intermission: The Kings lead 1-0. They’re outshooting the Capitals 11 to 10 and out-attempting them 16 to 11 at five-on-five.

2nd Period

Puck is dropped.

Matt Roy, on a two-on-one with Ovechkin, takes a shot and rips it off the post at 9:03 of the period.

Trevor Moore rips a shot off the post seconds later.

Dubois to the box for holding Anze Kopitar at 11:12.

Darcy Kuemper gets a penalty for tripping the guy he was traded for, Pierre-Luc Dubois, at 15:47. That felt cosmic.

Andrew Mangiapane to the box for holding Mikey Anderson at 19:20.

Charlie Lindgren robs Adrian Kempe on the power play with… his outlaw????

At intermission: The Kings still lead 1-0. Shots are 17 to 16 Capitals. Five-on-five shot attempts are 31 to 25 Kings.

3rd Period

Puck is dropped. The Kings have another 1:20 left in their power play.

🚨 2-0 Los Angeles Kings. LAK PPG: Kevin Fiala (25). Assists: A. Kopitar (37), D. Doughty (6). Time: 01:05.

Fiala beats Lindgren from the right circle on the power play.

🚨 3-0 Los Angeles Kings. LAK Goal: Quetin Byfield (25). Assists: A. Kopitar (37), D. Doughty (6). Time: 01:52.

Turnover by Big Pro ends up in the Capitals net. That’s two goals in 47 seconds for the Kings. Uh oh.

Caps struggling to get anything going in the third period. Comeback looks doubtful.

Capitals go back to the power play after a high-sticking penalty by Quentin Byfield at 12:41. He hit Rasmus Sandin in the helmet while holding his stick with one hand.

Drew Doughty gives the Capitals a 21 second 5-on-3 power pllay for cross-checking.

Tom Wilson starts a scrum with Mikey Anderson negating the rest of the Capitals power play. Both Wilson and Strome end up in the box.

Matt Roy to the box for slashing, giving the Kings a 4-on-3 powerplay. Capitals coming unglued here.

Kings shut out the Caps 3-0.
