Mikko Rantanen has a new home, and it’s with the Carolina Hurricanes in the Metropolitan Division.
Rantanen has been dealt east by the Colorado Avalanche in a massive three-team trade also involving the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday night. Daily Faceoff’s Frank Seravalli was the first to report the news.
Seravalli added that former league MVP Taylor Hall is part of the move and will join Rantanen in Carolina. Per ESPN’s Emily Kaplan, Martin Necas, Jack Drury, and two draft picks are Colorado’s return for the superstar Finnish winger.
The massive three way deal will send Mikko Rantanen and Taylor Hall to Carolina, Martin Necas & Jack Drury to Colorado per sources.
Chicago takes on 50% of Rantanen’s salary and gets its own third round pick back. @frank_seravalli on the trade first

Rantanen, 28, is in the final year of his contract and is scheduled for unrestricted free agency in July. He leads the Avs with 25 goals and has racked up 64 points in 49 games, which ranks sixth in the NHL.
He has posted over 100 points in each of the last two seasons and is a two-time NHL All-Star.
Necas, the other major part of the transaction, has 55 points (16g, 39a) in 49 games for the Hurricanes this season. The 26-year-old Czech signed a two-year, $13 million extension last July. Drury, 24, has nine points (3g, 6a) in 39 games this year.
Hall, 33, has 24 points (9g, 15a) in 46 games for the Blackhawks this year. The Hurricanes will be his sixth NHL team since he won the Hart Trophy with the New Jersey Devils in 2018. Chicago is also retaining half of Ratanen’s salary in the trade and will receive a third-round pick for doing so.
Prior to any trades, #Canes have $1.5M Cap Space remaining in LTIR.
