Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin missed his 14th straight game on Friday night due to a fractured fibula in his left leg. The Capitals captain has been out of the lineup for the last month but is expected to return shortly after the NHL’s holiday break.
While he hasn’t had much of a presence on Capitals telecasts, Ovechkin still is attending games and rooting his teammates on as he rehabs. Ovechkin was spotted by RMNB reader Alex G. at Capital One Arena during the Capitals’ 3-1 win over the Carolina Hurricanes.
The Capitals fan sent us a photo of Ovechkin grabbing a hot dog, among other items, for dinner. The legendary winger was wearing a beanie, Capitals hoodie, red shorts, and flip-flops.
Alex writes:
Ovechkin went straight to the food stand/area that had hotdogs, bratwurst, peppers & onions, and nachos. Most fans had already left to head to their seats but I and a few fellow stragglers exchanged looks of disbelief as he quickly loaded up his plate and left.
Understanding Ovechkin’s greatness on the ice begins with his legendary diet, which is not much of a diet at all. During his career, Ovechkin is famous for drinking soda in his water bottles during games, devouring nachos, and eating heavy Italian food. He also recently got into a habit of grabbing a foot-long Italian sub and a bag of Flamin’ Hot Cheetos before road trips.
“Some people follow a diet during the season, some don’t eat pasta, some don’t eat chicken,” Ovechkin said over the summer. “But, I eat whatever I want.”
Now, we can definitively add hot dogs to the list.
