The KHL’s Avangard Omsk tendered qualifying offers to four players on Sunday, including one to current Washington Capitals winger Ivan Miroshnichenko.
The move allows Avangard to keep Miroshnichenko’s KHL rights as the team heads into its offseason. If the young Russian were to make his way back to the league, Avangard would be his landing spot through May of 2026.

Securing his rights will also allow the team to trade them for another asset if they so wish to do so. Evgeny Kuznetsov saw his KHL rights traded when he was a member of the Capitals.
Avangard made the playoffs this season as the second seed in the KHL’s Eastern Conference. They won their first series against Lada Togliatti in five games but were upset by Lokomotiv Yaroslavl in the second round in seven games.
Miroshnichenko last played for Avangard during the 2022-23 campaign, skating in 23 games and recording four points (3g, 1a). The 20-year-old forward also spent 12 games in Russia’s junior league and four games in their AHL-equivalent league, all within the Avangard organization.
After the 2022-23 season, Miroshnichenko and Avangard agreed to terminate the final year of his contract.
This season is the young prospect’s first full-time stint in North America. The 2022 first-round draft selection has played 47 games in the AHL for the Hershey Bears and 20 games in the NHL for the Capitals. He has recorded 25 points (9g, 16a) for Hershey and six points (2g, 4a) for Washington.
Miroshnichenko signed his three-year, entry-level contract with the Capitals in early May once his KHL contract had been terminated. By playing in his 10th game with the Caps this season, he officially burned the first year on that NHL deal.
The Capitals also returned Miroshnichenko to the AHL at the recent trade deadline in a paper transaction, making him eligible to play for Hershey in the upcoming Calder Cup playoffs.
