Tunnel weirdness

1st Period

Charlie Lindgren will oppose Jeremy Swayman in net. Ovechkin-McMichael-Oshie and Fehervary-Carlson get the start.

Just a minute into regulation and Connor McMichael has a shot cleared off the goal line by Hampus Lindholm. So close to the opener.

Beck Malenstyn to the box for tripping Pavel Zacha.

🚨 1-o Bruins. Hampus Lindholm opens the scoring with a long-range wrister that gets by a screened Charlie Lindgren in the Capitals’ net. Lindholm found the back of the net with just a little over a minute remaining in the first frame, striking at the 18:47 mark.

Boston comes out of the first twenty minutes with a 9-6 advantage in shots. They are also up in five-on-five shot attempts 17-14.

2nd Period

Puck is dropped.

🚨 1-1 tie. Mike Sgarbossa evens the game just after puck drop in the second. Nick Jensen caught the Bruins in a line change and sent Sgarbossa in alone on Jeremy Swayman. Sgarbossa sniped over Swayman’s blocker at the 1:20 mark of the period.

🚨 2-1 Bruins. John Beecher ripped Dylan Strome off at the Bruins’ blue line and raced in on a breakaway to put Boston back up one. Beecher struck just 62 seconds after Sgarbossa at the 2:22 mark of the second.

Hendrix Lapierre gets decked by Andrew Peeke after dumping the puck in. Sure looked like it could have been called an interference penalty but nothing from the officials.

Danton Heinen to the box for slashing Trevor van Riemsdyk’s stick in half.

Kevin Shattenkirk to the box for hooking Nic Dowd.

🚨 2-2 tie. John Carlson ties the game on his big night. Max Pacioretty found him at the side of the net on the power play and Carlson jammed a shot by Swayman. He is now tied with Kevin Hatcher for the most goals by a defenseman in Capitals history. Goal came at the 14:03 mark of the second.

Bruins keep their shots advantage heading into the second intermission up 17-11. They also extended their lead in five-on-five shot attempts to 36-26.

3rd Period

Puck is dropped.

Martin Fehervary to the box for high-sticking David Pastrnak.

No shots for the Bruins on their power play. Incredibly good penalty kill from the Capitals.

Super low event third period and we head to overtime. The Caps are now third in the Metro.

Shots are 26-16 Bruins after regulation. Five-on-five shot attempts are 53-43 to the Bruins.

Overtime

Puck is dropped.

Hampus Lindholm takes a double minor high-sticking penalty against TJ Oshie.

Nothing for the Caps on their extended power play. To the shootout.

Shootout

Jake DeBrusk beats Lindgren to the glove side.

TJ Oshie tries to go five-hole but is shut down by Swayman.

Charlie Coyle gets nothing but Lindgren’s stick and is stopped.

Dylan Strome goes to his backhand and finishes behind Swayman.

David Pastrnak got just enough to squeeze a shot past Lindgren.

Sonny Milano to the roof and keeps the Capitals alive.

Brad Marchand stopped by the pads of Lindgren.

Alex Ovechkin’s drive is kicked away by Swayman.

Kevin Shattenkirk snaps his shot by Lindgren’s glove.

Connor McMichael is stopped and Boston wins.
