TJ Oshie and Tom Wilson’s butt taps were named the NHL’s Best Pregame Ritual

TJ Oshie and Tom Wilson may never win an individual NHL award, but together, they have created history.

Oshie and Wilson’s butt taps, where they whack each other in the derrière with their hockey sticks, has won the NHL’s Fans Choice Award as the Best Pregame Ritual.

I’m not sure if I should offer them congratulations or buy them each a bottle of Blu Emu numbing cream.

Oshie and Wilson received 32.3 percent of the vote, narrowly beating out Victor Hedman (29%) for first. Alex DeBrincat & Jonathan Toews (22.9%) and Ryan O’Reilly (15.8%) finished third and fourth.

Oshie and Wilson’s brilliant bonks to the booty first started during the 2015-16 season as first reported by us, RMNB. And apparently there’s a method to the madness, according to Oshie.

“We’ve got some different things going depending on if we lost last game, if we won we’ll do the same thing,” Oshie said. “So there’s a little bit of superstition there depending on what we tap, how hard we tap it, and how we do it.”

The fanny taps’ finest moment happened in December when Oshie broke his stick over Wilson’s iron-like rump.

Another great moment included when Wilson gave Oshie approximately 800 butt slashes to celebrate the forward’s 800th NHL game.

Congrats, boys. 🍑🍑
