Alex Ovechkin spent Sunday night watching the re-airing of Game Five of the 2018 Stanley Cup Final on NBC Sports Washington. The Caps defeated the Vegas Golden Knights 4-3 to win their first Stanley Cup in team history.
Sergei Ovechkin, Ovi’s one-year-old son, sat on The Great 8’s lap for a part of the night as he clutched his stuffed animal, Tigger, and ate chips.

Shortly after 9 PM, the Capitals defeated Vegas. With Sergei asleep upstairs, Ovechkin pulled out his camera and captured his reactions as he watched his teammates celebrate the win.
“What a time!” Ovechkin said as he hugged his teammates shortly before the Stanley Cup presentation.
A few minutes later, Gary Bettman walked out to give Ovi the Cup. “And it’s time for celebration,” Ovi said. “CELEBRATION!!”
“What a time!” Ovechkin said again as he watched himself skate the Cup around the T-Mobile Arena ice. “Nick-aay” Ovi said when he handed Stanley over to his longtime center, Nicklas Backstrom.
Ovechkin got excited when he saw Brooks Orpik, “Batya,” lift the Cup too.

Sunday, April 12, 2020, appears to mark the first time Ovechkin has re-watched himself winning the 2018 Stanley Cup Final – 675 days after it happened. In October 2019, Ovechkin admitted that he didn’t remember much from Game 5 and hadn’t re-watched the game in an interview with ESPN’s Rachel Nichols.
“Tough memories because it’s erased,” Ovechkin said then. “I was so excited, I can’t remember basically nothing. Just blackout. When you watch the video, you watch the highlights, I never watch the game (back) yet. Um, because, I don’t know, maybe one day. That game was probably the biggest game of my life.”

With Sergei falling in love with hockey and all of us quarantined inside with no end in sight, Ovi picked a great night to get nostalgic and enjoy the greatest accomplishment of his career.
