Red Wings trade Mike Green to Edmonton Oilers

The Detroit Red Wings sent Mike Green to the Edmonton Oilers early Monday morning in exchange for forward Kyle Brodziak and a conditional 2020 fourth-round pick.

The Capitals reportedly had interest in bringing Green back. Elliotte Friedman reported the news in his most recent 31 Thoughts Podcast.

Green has 11 points in 48 games for a struggling Wings team this season and has not generated much offense at even strength.

Ken Holland, the Oilers general manager, did a full press briefing after the Oilers victory in Los Angeles.

One of the Oilers’ top forwards, Ryan Nugent-Hopkin, also chimed in with his thoughts saying that the team is “pushing right now so adding a guy like that, a very experienced guy & high-end defenceman, it’s definitely exciting times.”

Last week, the Capitals acquired Brenden Dillon from the San Jose Sharks. Dillon has skated on the first pairing with John Carlson since arriving in DC.
