Open thread: 2020 trade deadline bonanza

It’s last call. At 3 PM today, the NHL will permit no more trades between teams. Non-playoff teams will want to get all the value they can out of expiring contracts, and playoff-aspiring teams will try to fill whatever gaps they have.

This is the space where we’ll keep track of all the big moves. Come follow along.

But first, let’s learn the cast of characters.

These teams are almost certainly not making the playoffs and are looking towards the future.

We’ve already had two big moves by Washington — Dillon and Kovalchuk —  plus one player who had been linked to Washington dealt elsewhere — Mike Green to Edmonton.

Looks like we’re entering a lull before big stuff happens right around 3 PM.

Here is a big one.

Deadline has passed. Joe Thornton stays put. Toronto makes no big moves. We will see some trades come across the wire at the last second.

We have been told the Capitals are done. No more moves except at the minor-league level.

We are winding down now. Unless something happens, we’ll probably close down this thread at 3:30.
