I woke up this morning and felt it in my bones. I was going to be mad about Daniel Snyder again, but this time it was going to be tied to the Capitals’ success.
Chris Russell chatted with the good folks at 106.7 the fan and let them know that he wasn’t in the room where it happened, but he was told by multiple people in THAT building…that the Washington NFL team owner Daniel Snyder and team president Bruce Allen are unhappy about the Washington Capitals’ success.
On Wednesday, Russell told Grant and Danny that when the Capitals won the Stanley Cup two years ago, Bruce Allen and Dan Snyder “were privately very, very angry and hostile and not happy about their success quite honestly. Maybe that has something to do a little bit with competitive business frustrations with Ted Leonsis, but they do not like to see anybody else praised and happy and doing good and advancing because they can’t figure it out and they can’t understand why they can’t figure it out.”
The next morning, Russell joined the Junkies to follow up on his comments. He was clear on the radio that he wasn’t in the room where it happened, but he was told by multiple people that were in THAT building.
Basically, the Capitals are taking the passionate D.C. fan base. They can’t figure out what they are doing wrong that the Capitals are doing right. Russell mentioned that it will also upset Allen and Snyder if the Nationals continue to do what they’ve been doing and, honestly, they look like they might. Maybe the frustration starts with something simple like, the Nationals and the Capitals are actually based in the city of Washington, DC, but we all know it goes deeper than that.
I am a football fan, specifically a Washington DC football fan. I grew up with it, I love my Sunday rituals, I like making chili during a snowy game, I love tailgating with the same crew, I love it all. It becomes harder and harder every single year to turn my attention to the team. As of right now, the team’s record is 139-183-1 since Dan Snyder purchased the team in 1999. They continue to be embarrassing, they won’t fire the people that need to be fired, and Dan Snyder will never stop being a greedy owner. Until he stops thinking only about himself, nothing will change, and people will find something better to support. Maybe I’ll finally get that Chicago Bears shirt (I drunkenly bought at an airport) out of my storage.
You don’t get to be jealous, Dan. Sell the team.
