The Ron Rivera era has officially begun in DC and it appears the new administration aced their first test.
The Washington Redskins stayed put and selected Hyattsville, MD, native Chase Young with the second overall pick in the 2020 NFL Draft. Young, who owns Ohio State’s single-season record for sacks (16.5), recorded 32 tackles and six forced fumbles last season. National analysts see the six-foot five-inch defensive end as a generational talent. He was a Heisman Trophy finalist.
“It would be an honor if the Redskins selected me,” Young said recently. “My hometown team – that’s definitely an exciting factor to it.”
Not only did Young, who played football and basketball at DeMatha Catholic High School, realize his NFL dream tonight, he also been immortalized in his first bobblehead, which excited Redskins fans can purchase here.
The bobblehead was released shortly before the NFL draft. It’s one of the first pieces of merch available for the Redskins’ new draft pick. Also available is Chase Young’s first jersey as a Redskin and some signed merch.
Young wears his number two Ohio State jersey as he runs a football down the field.
In the days before the draft, the Atlanta Falcons probed the Redskins on potentially trading up to select Young.
But the Redskins opted to stand pat.
