Alex Ovechkin made several surprise stops in DC on Tuesday to promote the upcoming release of his cereal, Ovi O’s. The Russian machine shocked second graders at the Arlington Traditional School as well as children at Georgetown Medical Hospital.
But it was Ovi’s last stop, at a Giant Food store in Washington DC, where his personality really shined as a supermarket employee.
Ovechkin stocked the cereal aisle — aisle number eight (you can’t make this stuff up) — with Ovi O’s. Later, he became a somewhat confused cashier which created many moments that were, well, So Ovi.

Beep! Beep! Future Hall of Famer coming through.
Ovechkin placed his cereal in between several different flavors of Cheerios.
Once the stocks were shelved with Ovi O’s, Ovechkin ambled over to the cash register number three to be a cashier. As part of the gig, Ovechkin greeted fans, made jokes, signed cereal boxes, and yes, handled money. He wore a black Giant shirt with a nametag that said OVI. The back read Count on us! Count on me!
The first person to buy a box of Ovi O’s was a Caps fan named Kaleigh.

And now let’s go to Cashier Ovi’s highlights, as there were many.
Here’s the future Hockey Hall of Famer checking a Caps fan’s ID because he was buying Coors Light.

Now here’s the Russian superstar, who’s more familiar with rubles than dollars, struggling to give back a fan’s change in American coins.

A fast learner, Ovi asked, “Sir, do you have a Giant card?” so that the customer could unlock their bonus card savings.

Ovechkin even took the phone to make a special announcement in-store. Ovi O’s are coming soon!

Finally, Ovechkin had to ring up his wife’s groceries at the end of his supermarket experience. And that’s where things really went wrong.
Ovi struggled to scan many of Nastya’s items because he had to key in individual product codes. Mrs. Ovechkin bought croissants, bananas, cauliflower, veggies, and two bags of apples for Ovi Jr., who is apparently an Applemaniac.
When Ovechkin rang up Nastya’s avocados, he tried to tell the Giant employee Bruce that “it’s 3 for $5!” to get a discount.

Ultimately, there was confusion on who would pay. Ovi was forced to hand over his credit card to Nastya. He gave her a priceless, skeptical look.

Then he said sweetly “See you at home!”
