In addition to being the first-ever woman to compete in the NHL All-Star skills competition, Olympic gold medallist, five-time IIHF Worlds Championships gold medalist, and Isobel Cup champion in the NWHL, Kendall Coyne Schofield can now add San Jose Sharks color commentator to her laundry list of accomplishments.
“I’ve always felt a part of the San Jose family since I left that moment,” Coyne Schofield told NBC Sports, referencing her time at the 2019 NHL All-Star weekend. “And everyone’s been so supportive, and the outreach from the San Jose community just to me as a hockey player has been unbelievable. So, I’m really excited to transition that into the broadcasting realm.”

Coyne Schofield will be part of the broadcast team for select games over the course of the 2019-20 season. Those games have yet to be announced.
This also won’t be Coyne Schofield’s first time joining the Sharks broadcast team. During the 2019 NHL playoffs, she provided coverage of Game Five of the Sharks’ second-round series against the Colorado Avalanche. She also served as a guest analyst for NBC Sports.
The Sharks would eventually go on to lose the Western Conference Final to the eventual Stanley Cup Winning St. Louis Blues, though Coyne Schofield believes that that loss — along with losing captain Joe Pavelski — will galvanize them heading into the new season.
“You can’t sulk on the past, otherwise you’re never going to progress to the future,” Coyne Schofield said to NBC. “But I think in the Sharks’ situation, they had such a phenomenal year and there are so many values that they can take away from last season and bring into this season. And one of those values is defeat.”
