The Washington Capitals responded to two games of questionable effort in North Carolina with a 6-0 trouncing of the Hurricanes in Game Five. Now, that’s more like it.
The Canes out-shot the Caps 30 to 28.

- That game was a sorely need jolt of electricity for this team and its fanbase. I feel like I just ate some orange slices at halftime and I’m raring to get after Game Six. The Caps controlled the majority of the big scoring chances in this game and as they built their lead, they didn’t switch off the jets which I think we are all very thankful for.
- The more I watch the Warren Foegele hit, the more disappointed I am in him not receiving a major penalty in the game or any further discipline. Just an incredibly reckless, dangerous check. Nice turnover, dork.
- Some standouts for me in this one. The entire top line, Evgeny Kuznetsov, Carl Hagelin, Nick Jensen, Devante Smith-Pelly. It is also very obvious to me that Jonas Siegenthaler needs to play with John Carlson to keep Carlson on his strong side.

- With his seventh career shutout in the playoffs (30 saves), Braden Holtby passed Olie Kolzig (6) for the most playoff shutouts in franchise history. By the way, it’s about time we get numbers 37 and 12 in the rafters, Cup or no Cup.
- Tom Wilson became the 26th player in franchise history to reach a double digit playoff goal total.
- Nic Dowd’s penalty shot goal is the first successful penalty shot in franchise history during the playoffs. The Caps have previously had three failed attempts, the latest being Joe Juneau against the Pittsburgh Penguins in 1996.
- Love ya, Teej.
