Out of the four playoff games that took place on Saturday, three featured teams locking up their series at 1-1. Lets check out how that spiciness went down.
Washington Capitals 4, Carolina Hurricanes 3
Washington leads series 2-0
- This is the 13th time in franchise history that the Caps have headed into Game Three of a series up 2-0.
- The Caps have now won six consecutive playoff games dating back to Game Two of last year’s Cup Final, outscoring opponents 24-13 in those games.
- Ten of the Caps fourteen first round playoff games since 2017 have gone to overtime. Cruel.

Nashville Predators 2, Dallas Stars 1
Series tied 1-1
- Craig Smith scored his third career game winning goal in the playoffs, tied for the most in Predators history with James Neal, Viktor Arvidsson, and David Legwand.
- Rocco Grimaldi scored his first career playoff goal to get the Preds tied in this game.
- The Preds nearly doubled the Stars in total shots on goal, ending the game plus-20 in that regard.
Boston Bruins 4, Toronto Maple Leafs 1
Series tied 1-1
- Neither of these teams can apparently resist the 4-1 meme and that’s hilarious.
- Tuukka Rask earned his 36th career win in the playoffs to move into a tie with Andy Moog for second place on the Bruins all-time list.
- Nazem Kadri is at it again. He has been offered an in person hearing for cross-checking Boston’s Jake DeBrusk in the head. Kadri was suspended for three games last playoffs and an in person hearing indicates he’s likely headed for something similar this playoffs.
Colorado Avalanche 3, Calgary Flames 2
Series tied 1-1
- Philipp Grubauer stopped 35 of 37 Flames shots on the way to his second career playoff victory. Atta way, Grubi.
- The Flames have now lost nine consecutive Game Twos dating back to the 2004 Western Conference Final. They are 7-1 in Game Threes during that same run.
- The Avalanche tied this game with 2:39 left in the third period with their goaltender pulled and won the game with 11:33 left in the first overtime. Please check out the save Grubauer makes right before they eventually win this game.
