A scary moment in the second period of Game Two: Hurricanes goalie Petr Mrázek took a hard one-timer from John Carlson off his mask.
The Canes had 91 seconds remaining to kill off a five-minute major when the puck hit Mrázek. Definitely an added scary scene since John Carlson has the hardest shot in the league.
Mrázek took some time to get checked out by head athletic trainer Doug Bennett. He stayed in the game. (Earlier in the period, Nic Dowd left the game temporarily, presumably for concussion protocol.)
Mrazek finished the second period with 16 saves.
After the game, the goaltender said the fall “was worse than the shot.”
Mrazek on losing his mask: “It catch me a little bit on the chin there. When I fell, I didn’t have the mask on and I hit the ice pretty hard with my face. I think that was worse than the shot.”
