Lets take a look at some of the action and news that came out of last night’s five first round series that got this year’s Stanley Cup Playoffs underway.

Columbus Blue Jackets 4, Tampa Bay Lightning 3

    • This was the first time that the Lightning lost a game this season in which they had a three goal lead. In fact, the last time overall that they have done so was December 18, 2015 against the Caps.
    • The Blue Jackets are only the sixth team in NHL history to rally from a deficit of at least three goals and win a playoff game against a number one seeded team.
    • Furthermore, The Blue Jackets are only the 27th team in NHL history to overcome a deficit of at least three goals and win a playoff game in regulation.

New York Islanders 4, Pittsburgh Penguins 3

    • The Islanders own an all time NHL best 68-percent win rate (34-16) when they reach overtime in the playoffs.
    • Evgeni Malkin scored his 63rd career playoff goal to surpass Bobby Hull (62) for sole possession of 26th on the NHL’s all-time list.
    • Malkin’s goal was also his 27th career power play goal in the postseason to tie Brian Propp, Steve Yzerman, and Joe Sakic for 10th place all-time.

St Louis Blues 2, Winnipeg Jets 1

    • Rookie of the year frontrunner and Blues goaltender, Jordan Binnington stopped 25 of 26 shots in his playoff debut.
    • Tyler Bozak recorded the fourth latest regulation game winning goal in Blues playoff history at 57:55 of the game.
    • Patrik Laine‘s opening goal was only his second goal in his last 19 games.

Dallas Stars 3, Nashville Predators 2

    • Miro Heiskanen is only the third teenage defenseman in NHL history to score two goals in a playoff game. The others were Phil Housley (1983) and Glenn Wesley (1988).
    • Mats Zuccarello‘s first career playoff goal with the Stars turned out to be the game winning goal.
    • Roman Josi recorded his ninth career playoff goal for the Predators, the second most in their history by a defenseman and tied for the eighth most overall.

San Jose Sharks 5, Vegas Golden Knights 2

    • Ryan Reaves played a team low 9:30 of ice time and received a ten minute misconduct for high sticking Evander Kane while the two were at their respective benches.
    • There was a total of 56 penalty minutes in this game.
    • The Sharks were the only Vegas betting odds favorite to win their game on this day. Irony.
