The Washington Capitals beat the Winnipeg Jets on Sunday night! Their seventh game with goalie hugs in a row! The Winnipeg Jets are basically the Washington Capitals of the West, in terms of hugging, but the Capitals got three goal hugs AND a goalie hug line, so…the Jets are, like, the lower case capitals of the west.
For a recap of all the hockey that happened, Mr. Cerullo’s recap has you covered and he’ll have the number for you in the morning! What a man, what a man, what a mighty good, etc.
For everything but the hockey (…and a little bit of the hockey when it’s relevant to emotional narratives arcs), here’s all the miscellaneous you may have missed!
Carl Hagelin looks good in the top penalty-killing unit and this suit.

I don’t even know what to say about Holtby in this suit. Too busy framing it to talk rn.

It’s typically a rookie’s job to clear pucks out of the net during practice and pre-game. It’s nice of Andre to do it, and rituals become entrenched for various reasons, but…does he know he’s no longer the baby of the team? If not…let’s not tell him. Ignorance is bliss, babes.
Holtby bonked Bonky on the head with his goalie stick during warmups. (h/t @dragonscrawl for figuring out which goalie it was!)

…later on, someone knocked Bonky head-first into the boards. Twice. Not as nice.
Ovechkin had a difference of opinion with a referee.
i'm not great at lipreading & or russian, but i'm pretty sure ovi was saying
"dear referee, please reconsider your previous call. i believe it was erroneous and based on either misperception or incomplete information. thank you for your time! best wishes to you & yours, ovi. 😘" pic.twitter.com/3L3ijjhJJ8

The game was relatively shenanigan-free, but this Patrick Smith shot of the one major kerfluffle is akin to a rennaisance painting. Plus, TJ Oshie protecting a fallen Ben Chiarot is a maneuver familiar to heroes and parents of small children everywhere.

The Winnipeg Jets are half-way decent huggers. We shan’t have need to discuss it any further.
oh no. they're good huggers. pic.twitter.com/qa3Cxjw726

Terrible hug coverage on both team’s feeds. Lots of back-and-forth between the Caps and bummed Jets. Here’s Nicke on the bench afterward though:
tj: yay! you scored!
nicke: alas. i scored. pic.twitter.com/vozC5nbpmu— b. (@youripides) March 10, 2019
HEY WAIT I’M GETTING BETTER AT VIDEO EDITING, HERE YA GO BUDS:
Hagelin scored on a beautiful breakaway. The goal was so good Mr. Oland wrote a whole post about it. (Featuring: Nic Dowd, dog dad.)
Hagelin’s fast. Did y’all know that? He also had already taken two penalties, but shhhh, this is not hockey talk time.
He then chatted with Braden Holtby about it on the bench.
The hug was pretty good too.
Lars Eller scored an ENG goal last game too, and the Capitals are classy (at times) and don’t do their Big Best Hugs when the other team’s having a tough time.
Thursday against New Jersey, Hagelin still made sure to give the Tiger some belly rubs.
Y'ALL! yes, it was very classy of the caps to skip their usual Happy Family Meeting Hug when scoring an ENG & just play it cool instead, but!
our newest kiddo, carl haggy hagelin, still gave the tiger a lil tummy rub 👱♀️+🐯=🤗 pic.twitter.com/hbqnKcKFy6

Tonight, Ovi gave Tom a fistbump for his assist and smart play towards the end of the game, and did his best to cheer up sourpuss Tiger who hasn’t gotten a good hug in quite some time.
Jakub Vrana also sang “Eye of the Tiger” in honor of Lars Eller on his way to the shower. Why isn’t there video of this? A travesty.
All goalie hugs are good goalie hugs when they’re Capitals’ goalie hugs, but this TJ Oshie bounce is especially special.
osh-babe: *git ready git ready it's almost your turn babe u got this*
ovi: *good big soft warm captain hug*
osh-babe: *OMG BOUNCE* pic.twitter.com/5mkvVgVeN2— b. (@youripides) March 11, 2019
