The Carolina Hurricanes did the limbo and hit a homer during their latest Storm Surges. Don Cherry called them ‘jerks.’

You guys, the Carolina Hurricanes can’t stop winning, meaning their postgame hijinks, nicknamed Storm Surges, are getting more frequent and creative.

This weekend, the Hurricanes debuted two new team cellys. They were brilliant, and made Don Cherry mad.

I will now document them for you.

The Dinger

With MLB players reporting for spring training (except Bryce Harper), the Hurricanes did a baseball celly after their 3-1 win over the Edmonton Oilers, Friday.

Dougie Hamilton, acting as a pitcher, heaves his glove towards Warren Foegele, the batter. And that’s when it happens.

Foegele hits an imaginary dinger, flips his bat like Jose Bautista, and rounds the bases. He’s met at “home plate” with his celebrating teammates.

The Limbo

Saturday night, the Hurricanes shutout the Dallas Stars 3-0. Using a hockey stick, the team did the limbo.

Everyone made it through except Stormy. Poor Stormy.

The Canes’ captain, Justin Williams, helped institute the idea before the season. “Hockey is our life and job, but it is still a game,” Williams said. “Enjoy the good times and have fun with it. Let’s celebrate more this year.”

While the cellys are popular, there are some detractors, such as Don Cherry, who for some reason hates creativity in his hockey despite wearing the loudest of suits.

Cherry called the Hurricanes “jerks” on Coach’s Corner during Hockey Night of Canada.

“This is the National Hockey League,” Cherry said. “These guys to me are jerks. This is a joke. That is absolutely ridiculous. They’re jerks doing it as far as I’m concerned.”

The Hurricanes social media responded on Twitter.

The Hurricanes have won eight of their last 10 games and are now in the top eight of the Eastern Conference standings.
