The Capitals’ return to Las Vegas was spoiled Tuesday night.
Not only did the Caps lose 5-3, they also lost Tom Wilson to injury after a blindside hit by Vegas’ Ryan Reaves. Wilson’s helmet flew off in the hit and the Capitals forward appeared to hit his head against the ice in the fall.
Capitals senior writer Mike Vogel provided an update on the team’s first-line right wing Wednesday afternoon.
Speaking of Wilson, he left the game late in the second period after absorbing a blindside hit from Vegas winger Ryan Reaves, who received a five-minute major and a game misconduct on the play.
The impact of the hit knocked Wilson’s helmet off, and his head hit the ice upon landing. He was visibly wobbly as he went off the ice and did not return. According to the Caps, he is day-to-day with an upper body injury, but did accompany the team to Arizona where it will play the Coyotes on Thursday.
The Capitals did not practice Wednesday. There will likely be more information on Wilson’s status during the morning skate on Thursday.
Reaves was ejected for his hit, but faced no further discipline from the NHL’s Department of Player Safety.
