Justin Williams, former Washington Capital and currently the captain of the Carolina Hurricanes, is having fun this (Halloween) season. He doesn’t just lead his new team in Kuznetsov-inspired canoe-cellies, he gets their adrenaline pumping off the ice, too.
This excellent captain put on a scary clown mask and gave his teammates a solid jump scare. Luckily for all of us, the Canes got it all on camera.
I hope no one’s afraid of clowns…
Let’s break down a few of the greatest hits, starting with the Canes backup goalie, former Leaf Curtis McElhinney.
“I’m too old for that stuff,” complained the 35-year-old, after Williams popped out of a laundry basket.
Next up was recent acquisition, Dougie Hamilton.
“I think Dougie got ‘got’ pretty good,” Williams said later. We concur.
The two-for-one special of Warren Foegele and Micheal Ferland had the most entertaining, and most bleeped, reaction.
However, Trevor van Reimsdyk’s reaction–“I’m too tired to be scared”–was definitely the most relatable, if not the most GIFable. Overall, the team took it with good humor. After Teuvo TerƤvƤinen got over his scare (and gave Williams a few fake jabs) he even fist-bumped his captain with a laugh.
In summary, Williams is terrifying.
The Leafs did their own video, starring their mascot Carlton. The highlight of the Bear Scare is definitely Auston Matthews.
Gotta put the sound on for this one, y’all.
