Sergei Shumakov, the Capitals’ newest eagle aficionado, appears to have damaged a wing.
On Wednesday, the Russian forward posted a picture on his Instagram story of his right hand in a blue cast. As translated by RMNB’s Graham Dumas, the text says “I played too hard.”
According to a Hershey Bears representative, “Sergei was injured during the first period of Sunday’s game in Rockford. Per our training staff, Sergei Shumakov is week-to-week with an upper body injury.”
Shumakov last played in the Hershey Bears game on Sunday, October 14. He now joins a long list of injured Hershey Bears players. These injuries don’t help the Bears record of 0-5, the worst start in their 81-year history.
INJURY BUG: Entering the week, Bears forwards Riley Barber, Juuso Ikonen and Sergei Shumakov were battling upper body injuries, while Mason Mitchell is recovering from a lower body injury. Forward Mathias Bau remains on the Capitals injured non-roster list with an upper body injury. On the backend, both blue liners Kris Bindulis and Colby Williams have been sidelined with upper body injuries.
The 26-year-old winger was sent down to the Hershey Bears in late September after participating in the Capitals training camp. He has two goals in five games.
