We were a bit preoccupied this summer with Stanley Cup celebrations, and we missed a second, nearly-as-important award.
NHL fans voted and Capitals forwards Evgeny Kuznetsov and Brett Connolly as the Fan Choice GIF of the Year for their failed fist bump.
So many great GIFs to choose from, but in the end the choice was clear.
In a landslide, you voted for @bconnolly8 and @Kuzya92 to win the #NHLFanChoice GIF of the Year! 🏆 pic.twitter.com/HvhaVd0FWW

In December of 2017, Connolly scored in the third period of a game against the Sharks. The goal was reviewed and ultimately deemed a good goal. Kuzy tried to offer Connolly a fist bump to celebrate.
Connolly didn’t see him and didn’t respond, so Kuzy fist bumped himself. (Twice.)
Connolly tweeted that he would get Kuzy next time.
Next time 👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻👊🏻@Kuzya92

…it seems that they haven’t quite worked out all of the kinks yet.
They still haven’t quite figured out that fist bump yet though…

With Tom Wilson suspended for twenty games, Connolly has been spent some time on the top line as Kuzy’s right winger. They might have more opportunities to celebrate.
Raise that banner, y’all.
