Brett Connolly scored a huge goal in the third period to give the Caps a 3-1 lead, but it was what happened afterwards that has gone viral in hockey circles.
After officials reviewed Connolly’s shot and deemed it a good goal, Evgeny Kuznetsov greeted his teammate with a fist bump at the bench.
why did he have to hang Kuzy out to dry like that on the fist bump? 😂 pic.twitter.com/cZOMk5sNOz

An unaware Connolly left Kuznetsov hanging twice, forcing Kuznetsov to play it off in the best way possible. He fist-bumped himself.
Later, after the game, NBC Sports Washington’s Tarik El-Bashir asked Connolly about the moment. Connolly had no idea what he was talking about.

“That’s hilarious,” Connolly said as a look of existential dread took over his face.
In case there was any doubt, that was the *most* Kuzy & Connolly moment imaginable according to @smithpelly23 pic.twitter.com/Y308v3cLQq

“If you were to describe those two guy, this is perfect,” Devante Smith-Pelly said. “One is super serious, you know, tunnel vision. The other is a jokester. That picture is literally those two personalities to a T.”
