Travis Boyd is wearing a protective boot on his left foot after blocking a shot in the preseason

On Saturday night, a few of the Capitals attended a DC United game, and after the game, Andre Burakovsky got to meet his hero, Wayne Rooney.

In the photo posted by Burakovsky from inside the DC United locker room, Travis Boyd’s left foot can be seen encased in a protective boot.

According to Mike Vogel, Boyd suffered an injury blocking a Vince Dunn shot late in the Caps’ preseason game against the Blues.

Here’s another look.

The Capitals have not been specific about Boyd’s injury, stating that it is a lower-body injury and that Boyd’s status is week-to-week.

Todd Reirden said yesterday that he does not believe Boyd will require surgery.

With Boyd unable to make the opening night roster, an open roster spot is open for another forward. It also cements Nic Dowd as the fourth-line center to start the season.
