Summer of Leonsis continues as Washington Mystics advance to WNBA Finals

The Washington Capitals broke the DC Sports curse in June and now area teams owned by Ted Leonsis Can’t. Stop. Winning.

Weeks after the Washington Valor won the Arena Bowl in late July, the Washington Mystics advanced to the WNBA Finals for the first time in franchise history, defeating the Atlanta Dream 86-81.

The Mystics’ Ariel Atkins led all scorers with 20 points while Kristi Toliver chipped in 19. Mystics all-star power forward Elena Delle Donne recorded her fifth-straight double-double, scoring 14 points and securing 11 rebounds.

DC Sports Twitter was very happy about the Mystics’ historic W.

The WNBA Finals begin Thursday night. The Mystics will play the winner of the series between the Phoenix Mercury and Seattle Storm.
