There’s a saying that goes “true friends can insult each other on a daily basis knowing most of it is a joke.” This offseason, the Capitals have taken that saying to heart, routinely roasting each other on social media.
Most recently, Brett Connolly chirped Tom Wilson for not picking him and fellow Cap Devante Smith-Pelly at the BioSteel Camp draft.
@tom_wilso can’t even pick one of your teammates? @smithpelly23 https://t.co/febvsgdDPv

Wilson responded that the two forwards were hot commodities after winning the Cup.
Sorry boys. Rookie GM. You guys were a hot commodity this year for some reason… https://t.co/31SjZR5wca

Throughout the duration of the summer, Wilson and Smith-Pelly have teamed up to chirp their teammates. Both of them mocked Jakub Vrana‘s clothes while he was grabbing coffee.
Their main target has been Andre Burakovsky. Wilson called him a fish out of water after completing a Cup stand, and he’s been called out on SnapChat for an unfortunate autocorrect.
Burakovsky tried to chirp Wilson about liking how he looked on a plaque. It backfired spectacularly because Wilson brought receipts: Burkie staring at his own reflection thanks to the mirrors that lead players to the rink from their locker rooms in Vegas.
Never meet a person that looks at himself in the mirror as much as you @tom_wilso

This is why Vegas added all those mirrors: Andre Burakovsky gets distracted by his own reflection#ALLCAPS pic.twitter.com/5esG7HEJY5

Enough said @andreburakovsky https://t.co/oKEUPCR7SG

The brunt of the chirps are aimed at Burakovsky’s sponsorship posts. The first is this post where he asked #areyounoccoenough. Nocco is a no-carb company from Sweden.
DSP and Willy’s responses mocked the question posed by Burkie.
Burakovsky’s teeth whitening deal with HiSmile was also the subject of Wilson and DSP’s ire. Except this time, it took a coordinated effort to roast Burkie.

The post was first brought to Devo’s attention by Montreal Canadiens forward Jacob DeLaRose. Smith-Pelly alerted Wilson to the prime chirping opportunity, and Willy didn’t hold back. Even Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom got in on the action.
Wilson’s chirping hasn’t cleared him from being the butt-end of some teammates’ jokes. John Carlson taunted Willy’s Stanley Cup bench press.
In an episode of Cabbie Presents at the BioSteel Camp in 2017, Wilson, Smith-Pelly, Tyler Seguin, and Sam Gagner discussed what was on and off the table when chirping a team mate or an opponent.
Keep it clean, boys.
