The 2018 BioSteel Camp has begun!
The draft was held today, headed by captains Tyler Seguin, Michael Del Zotto, Darnell Nurse, and Tom Wilson. The four teams will be playing for the Ray Emery Cup.
With his picks, Wilson skipped over two of his own Capitals teammates — Brett Connolly and Devante Smith-Pelly — and prioritized taking Erik Gudbranson off the board, Del Zotto’s defensive partner.
Overall, Wilson was happy with his picks. “[It] went well. Stirred the pot a little bit–took [Del Zotto]’s defense partner. Lost some friends though. Devo and Conno aren’t happy right now.”
Wilson did use one of his picks for Joel Ward, “an old teammate of mine.”
Nurse, who selected his fellow Edmonton Oilers teammate Scottie Upshall in the draft, threw Wilson under the bus for snubbing his Cup-winning Capitals teammates.

“I wasn’t gutless towards my teammates that I play with during the year like Willy was,” Nurse said. Brutal.
Devante Smith-Pelly went to Del Zotto’s team, and Brett Connolly to Nurse’s.
Nothing is set in stone yet, as Del Zotto noted, “We’ve got one extra goalie this year, so we’ll see if we can get a trade in the works.”
When asked about possible trades to his team, Wilson said, “I’m going to have to put a couple lines in the water because Devo’s still hanging around here, he’s feeling a bit of disrespect. We’ll have to see if we can get him on my team.”
