Sunday night, the San Jose Barracuda, the AHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, hosted, what I would consider, a Very Special event. The Barracuda held their inaugural Pucks and Paws night against their geographical rival, the San Diego Gulls. Similar to baseball’s Pups in the Park evenings, attendees could bring their best friend to the game.
What made this event even more incredible, however, were the unique dog inspired jerseys worn by the Barracuda and the team’s bobblehead giveaway.
AHL teams often wear special jerseys to raise money throughout the year, such as the Hershey Bears’ American flag sweaters worn on Veterans Day. But these dog-inspired uniforms appear to be an AHL first.

The Barracuda’s jerseys were primarily brown with a highlighted lighter section to represent fur. The numbers were created with bones illustrations. The design on the front of the sweater featured a dog collar with a bone-shaped name tag. The initials “SJB” for San Jose Barracuda are printed inside the bone.
And because the Barracuda wanted to go the extra mile, a tail was printed on the back with wag marks because who wouldn’t be happy wearing that? The team also wore matching socks.

The jerseys are being auctioned on eBay with a portion of the proceeds benefitting the Veterans Tickets Foundation.
The event was a barking success with over 300 dogs attending the game with 7,000 humans.
Some of the best dogs in attendance were even a part of the ceremonial puck drop. Sharks defenseman Marc-Edouard Vlasic’s three rescue dogs were the stars of the show. (Of course Dad had to come along, as well.)

Our advice? Get to the arena early. Only 4,000 bobbleheads available. pic.twitter.com/odBKlcNZSd
