The Caps needed a win to restore faith and to get back on track after yet another lopsided loss on Monday night. They got just that, but now the challenge is to do it again and again and again.
Jakub Vrana, one time nacho eater, got the Caps on the board first. Alex Ovechkin, reunited with his bff Nicklas Backstrom, put the Caps up two.
Evgeny Kuznetsov sniped on the power play and Vrana got a puck stuck under the bar, but totally in the net. Ryan Dzingel scored for Ottawa. The Caps were up 4-1 after 40 minutes.
Mike Hoffman buried a Mark Stone rebound. Alex Chiasson buried an empty netter.
Caps beat Senators 5-2!
- Barry Trotz made a ton of changes to the forward lines that were part of a 4-1 loss to the Calgary Flames only a few nights ago. Those new lines had an immediate effect as the new top six were involved in both goals in the first period.
- After his own head coach said that he was difficult to play with, Alex Ovechkin scored a goal in the very next period.
- The new second line of Evgeny Kuznetsov, Jakub Vrana, and TJ Oshie shall here by be known as the Sonic line as far as I’m concerned. Gotta go fast. I am a big fan of this trio, they had a bunch of points.

- Dmitry Orlov had a breakaway. Yes the defenseman Orlov.
- The goal the Caps allowed in the second period was a bit of a fluke. After his penalty just expired, Brooks Orpik found himself as the third defensemen on the ice, unable to get a get a change at the bench. This resulted in having no center in red on defense, allowing Ryan Dzingel to come right down the middle and beat Braden Holtby.
- The once healthy scratched Vrana was very good from the jump tonight. With Andre Burakovsky out, the Caps are going to need continuous offensive production from Vrana. Great night for the young Czech as he tallied the first two goal game of his young career.
- Braden Holtby had a great night in net. That fact you are used to. Brooks Orpik having a great night? A little irregular this season, but we must give credit where it’s due, he was super bueno.

- The Caps took their foot off the gas after Vrana put them up four. They took a potential Enrique game and made into only a pretty damn good game.
- In my opinion, Erik Karlsson is the most valuable player in the NHL, don’t @ me. He and his wife are also expecting their first child! Babies rule!
