Cool the Flames: Caps win 4-2

The Calgary Flames came to town on Tuesday and boy have they been…hot. Winners of 12 of their last 13 games, the Flames have been giving teams around the league fits recently.

The Caps opened the scoring after Andre “Dre” Burakovsky stripped Johnny “fancy pants” Gaudreau in the neutral zone and then fed Evgeny Kuznetsov for a pretty goal. The lead didn’t last long as some miscommunication in the Caps defensive zone allowed Sean Monahan to tie the game at one with a snipe.

The second period was uneventful until it wasn’t. TJ Oshie scored his 30th goal of the season to put the Caps up 2-1. Just before the buzzer, Kevin Shattenkirk was credited with the PP goal to put the good guys up 3-1, but it sure looked like Nick Backstrom touched it.

In the third, the Caps had some more issues in the defensive zone that led to a goal by some guy named Troy Brouwer. Alex Ovechkin fired the biscuit all night and was rewarded with a late PP goal.

    CAPS WIN 4-2!

    • Tonight was the first time Ethan Wesley Oland has been on the planet for a hockey game played by the professional club from Washington DC. Welcome to the world, baby boy.
    • If you had forgotten about number 65 during his injury, his play on the opening goal served as a reminder of how darn good he is.
    • Barry Trotz has an immensely talented forward group. Tonight, he decided that the Jay Beagle line should play against the Gaudreau line when possible.
    • Sometimes this team drives me crazy with what seems like too much passing. But then sometimes they have beautiful passing plays that result in a beautiful goal or great scoring chance. Take the good with the bad and the bad with the good, I suppose. But it wouldn’t hurt if the Caps tried to game their corsi more sometimes.
    • Wrestlemania is less than two weeks away. Follow the buzzards.
    • TJ Oshie scored his 30th goal of the season. You may remember Peter and I had a bet on this topic last season. Three reminders:
      1. I won the bet
      2. Peter hasn’t paid his debt
      3. I did not agree to the bet for this season
    • We’ve been saying it for weeks: the Lars Eller line needs more ice time.
    • Ian is on point, even with a newborn.

Ethan's first hockey game. Who needs a white noise machine when you've got @MayHockeyCSN to yell-talk him to sleep? pic.twitter.com/49KCk783s1

    • Ovechkin had a double digit shot effort. Don’t forget to cherish this man.

Because sometimes there’s something more important than the Joe B suit of the night
