Here’s the deal: we’re gonna talk about this game, but we’re not going to talk about the part that matters until the very end. Got it? Good.
The Capitals beat the Rangers. It was a tight one. Very tight. You know how it is.
The first period came and went without a goal, but we got a nifty Jay Beagle goal in the second to make up for it. The Rangers attacked Klendathu in the third period, but the Capitals goalie had the answer for everything, and so….
Caps beat Rangers 1-0!
Caps lead the series 2-1!
BRADEN HOLTBY SHUTOUT!!!
I’m over the moon for Jay Beagle, who scored his first goal since March and did it in unbelievable fashion. He took the first attack, got rebuffed, and then rallied around the back of the net to try again. Shots from behind the net, by definition, can’t be on net, and yet, this one was. Welcome back to the website, beagle.jpg.- Troy Brouwer got his first point of the series on Beagle’s goal, but I’m still considering him on the schneid until he does something bonkers.
- The way Tim Gleason bails on playing the puck and opts instead to play obstacle to forecheckers… well, I suspect he’s playing hurt. Meanwhile, Nate Schmidt is doing yoga poses and isometric exercises in the press box. I wonder if Gleason’s not the only one playing through injury. The performances of a few other guys have me wondering.

- And now I’m worried about 44. Rick Nash smeared Brooks Orpik into the glass behind the Capitals net. Orpik was visibly shaken up, but he return to play.
- Pierre is still an idiot.
- Tom Wilson carbo-loaded or something. He was vibrating at a different frequency than everyone else on the ice: skating faster, hitting bigger, and even generating chances to boot. There’s a complete player in there, and he’s coming soon, but garbage hits like the one he put on James Sheppard after Nash wiped out Orpik are holding him back. His coaching is better than it was last season; now it’s on Tom to take the next step.
- The third period was either a) exciting, b) messy, or c) both. The Rangers had all the heat. They should have scored, but… well.. let’s go to the conclusion.

Braden Holtby, the scourge from Saskatchewan, turned away every Rangers shot sent his way– more than thirty of ’em. He’s one of the best, I keep telling you guys, but you’ve been made cynical by Theo and Varly and Neuvy. Come back to the land of the limitlessly hopeful, Caps fans. Braden Holtby is the savior, literally.
When Ovi can’t score and Brouwer will never score again, you need the backstop to play inhuman hockey. Tonight we got inhuman hockey from Braden Holtby.
You can’t see me right now, but I’m standing up, applauding.
Good win, Caps.
