Andre Burakovsky has a lot of nicknames. Some players, like new roommate Michael Latta, call him Burkie. Others, such as us, call him the Burracuda. Apparently we’re not alone.
During a post-game interview with Pierre McGuire, Jay “The Regal” Beagle gave a shout-out to the “Burracuda” for his great pass.
Lynda Carter, the original Wonder Woman, was at Verizon Center last night. And she was rooting for the Washington Capitals.

Peter did his best to capture Caps fans’ delight in Braden Holtby tonight, but there’s only so much you can do with words. You can say Holtby recorded a 30-save shutout against a top-five shooting New York Rangers team, but that doesn’t really describe the majesty of the accomplishment. You can say Holtby is sporting a .949 save percentage in the playoffs, a good tenth and change above the next goalie in the second round (Tampa’s Ben Bishop, at .933), but those are just cold numbers, devoid of poetry.
The best moments in sports are transcendental. Words are insufficient. You just gotta feel it. Let Ovi feel it for you.

Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin has always been a fan of electronic dance music– hence his friendship with superstar DJ Tiesto. As you’ll recall, Ovechkin famously went to see Tiesto play at Fur Night Club in 2010. That night gave us a lot of goofy photos and the GIF that resides in the background of our error page.
But there’s one problem: Tiesto is a Rangers fan.

Today is May the 4th, a.k.a Star Wars Day, so one intrepid Caps fan came to game three wearing a Chewbacca costume UNDER his Nicklas Backstrom jersey. RMNB reader Emily Ward first located Chewy while he was shopping for power converters in the team store. No, I do not know how he didn’t pass out from dehydration.
Here’s the deal: we’re gonna talk about this game, but we’re not going to talk about the part that matters until the very end. Got it? Good.
The Capitals beat the Rangers. It was a tight one. Very tight. You know how it is.
The first period came and went without a goal, but we got a nifty Jay Beagle goal in the second to make up for it. The Rangers attacked Klendathu in the third period, but the Capitals goalie had the answer for everything, and so….
Caps beat Rangers 1-0!

Before New York met the Washington Capitals in the second round, the Rangers’ Twitter account made a bold decision: they would abandon using uppercase letters (capital letters… get it?!) in their tweets for the duration of the series.
Cute gimmick, but then they blew it, and then the Caps scored.
Ladies and gentlemen, we have our first beagle.jpg of the 2014-15 NHL playoffs. The Caps grinder scored after some fantastic forechecking by Troy Brouwer and Andre Burakovsky.
After Beagle takes a beautiful backhanded pass from the Burracuda, he fires a shot from the slot. Lundqvist stops it, but the rabid Beagle stays dogged on the puck and fetches his own rebound. Then he shoots from behind the net and like magic– it goes in!
Today is the sixth anniversary of what was arguably the greatest game in Capitals franchise history. Playing the Pittsburgh Penguins in the second game of the second round, Alex Ovechkin and Sidney Crosby swapped hat tricks on the way to a 4-3 Caps win. It was the high-water mark for the league’s biggest rivalry — and arguably the Caps themselves, who went on to lose three straight.
Tonight the Caps will host the Rangers in game three of the second round. Someone will do something that we’ll all be talking about tomorrow. Let’s watch it happen together. 7:30 PM on NBCSN.
