A night after scoring his 400th NHL goal, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin didn’t rest on his laurels. Whatever that means. I don’t even know what a laurel is.
Ovi scored career goal number 401 on future Hall of Fame goaltender Martin Brodeur. The tally also just so happened to be his 30th on the season, which leads the entire dang league.
Let’s check out the play.
As Marcus Johansson put pressure on Patrick Elias, the Devils veteran forward turned the puck over to Karl Alzner at the point. Alzner then zipped a short pass to Ovechkin skating in the middle of the ice. Ovi went five-hole on Marty.
Gr8 goal. Even gr8er because it followed up a Jaromir Jagr goal two minutes earlier.
According to the Capitals, Ovechkin is the only player in the NHL to score 30 or more goals in every season since 2005-06. And dating back to last season, the Russian machine has scored 62 goals in his last 82 games.
He’s also scored a goal in four consecutive games (12/15-12/21: 4g, 2a).
Too bad it couldn’t come in a win.
