Newly-acquired forward Carl Hagelin scored his second goal as a Capital Sunday against the Winnipeg Jets.
The speedy penalty killer scored on a breakaway upon exiting the penalty box. The goal was assisted by Nic Dowd.
The stunning play would end up being the game-winning goal.

The first period of the Caps-Yotes game featured five shots and lots of yawns. 5:40 into the second period, the Caps finally broke through. TJ Oshie scored his 11th goal of the season after a slick individual play by Jakub Vrana.
Alex Ovechkin may have had three assists on the night, but young Jakub Vrana had the pass of the night.
It didn’t result in a goal, but you have to see this.
Sunday, the Washington Capitals whittled their training camp roster down to 36 players. The very next day, Barry Trotz reformulated his lines as only three games remain in the preseason.
During practice on Monday, Trotz had the team participate in a four-man small ice scrimmage and Alex Ovechkin reminded us all why he’s one of the greatest players on earth.
The Washington Capitals and Philadelphia Flyers played a mostly sleepy game through 40 minutes. Then the third period happened.
Washington exploded for four goals in five minutes. To complete the scoring, Nicklas Backstrom found Justin Williams with a no-look, between-the-legs pass. The tally gave the three-time Stanley Cup champion his 14th goal of the season.
It was Backstrom’s second stunning assist of the period.
While Alex Ovechkin is undisputedly one of the greatest goal-scorers of all time, he’s also become a very good passer. Sunday against the Flyers, Ovechkin authored one of the greatest assists of his career.
I’m serious.
Tom Wilson scored his third goal of the season, but it happened because of Nate Schmidt’s stick–to–itiveness.
Last game, the Caps had a hard time scoring against the Devils, but Brett Connolly got them on the board early on New Year’s Eve. And it was all made possible by a lovely pass from 2016’s perfect bouncing baby boy, Andre Burakovsky.
It’s a holiday goal party and Alex Ovechkin just got invited.
10:48 into the second period, the Russian machine joined John Carlson in the goal column, scoring on a breakaway. The goal was stunning but the pass by Dmitry Orlov was a work of art that even Picasso would curse at.
