What did you expect from the first period of Friday’s Caps game in Chicago? Did you expect two goals from Jay Beagle?

No you did not. Shut up. SHUT UP.

Get ready for a mean pair of beagle.jpgs.

For his first feat, Beagle scored a shorty. Evgeny Kuznetsov had given the Chicago Blackhawks an early power play with a holding penalty at 5:38. Beagle and TJ Oshie were your PKers. Oshie, with possession just past center ice, lobbed a great saucer pass to Beagle.

The goal looked effortless for Beagle, but that’s because goalie Corey Crawford assumed a diving Brent Seabrook had taken away Oshie’s option to pass.

    Seabrook did not.

Later, during 5-on-5, Beagle’s line harried the Hawks in their own zone. Beagle had already had one takeaway, but then the Caps interrupted Chicago’s breakout, and Beagle drove behind the net.

It was a downright Kuznetsovian wraparound.

Beagle now sits at three goals on the season. His last goal came on November 1 in Winnipeg.
