The Washington Capitals announced that Blaine Forsythe and Kevin McCarthy will not return to the team next season after the team and the assistant coaches agreed to part ways.
Forsythe and McCarthy follow Peter Laviolette out the door after the Capitals posted their worst full season in 16 years.

The Washington Capitals will be without assistant coach Scott Allen when they take the ice against the Ottawa Senators on Thursday night.
The Athletic’s Tarik El-Bashir reports that Allen is in the NHL’s COVID protocol The Massachusetts native is normally in charge of the team’s forward group and penalty kill.

In July, the Washington Capitals promoted Scott Allen from head coach of the Hershey Bears to the NHL bench as one of Peter Laviolette’s assistants. One of Allen’s major responsibilities as an assistant is the handling of the team’s penalty kill.
With some of the offseason additions the Capitals made like forward Connor Brown, Allen said he saw an opportunity to mold the penalty-killing unit into a more aggressive difference maker.
Some of that newfound aggressiveness has been on display in the team’s first four preseason games. And it’s been successful without two previous major pillars of the PK unit, Tom Wilson and Carl Hagelin, who are out long term.

The Washington Capitals announced on Monday that they had filled their vacant assistant coaching position by promoting from within as Hershey Bears head coach Scott Allen will join Peter Laviolette’s staff, replacing Scott Arniel. Allen is expected to work mainly with the team’s forward group and penalty-killing units.
The Massachusetts native spoke with reporters about his hiring on Tuesday. The penalty kill was the main topic of conversation.

The Washington Capitals found their replacement for Scott Arniel and they didn’t have to look very far.
The Capitals are promoting Hershey Bears head coach Scott Allen into the position. Allen, just like Arniel did, will work the Capitals’ forwards and penalty kill. He joins assistant coaches Kevin McCarthy, Blaine Forsythe, and goaltending coach Scott Murray already on Peter Laviolette’s staff.

It’s no secret that the two big names from the Capitals prospect pool that fans want to see make an impression this preseason are Martin Fehervary and Connor McMichael.
On a team that has the vast majority of NHL spots already locked down, Hershey Bears head coach Scott Allen believes that it will be up to the two youngsters to prove over the next few weeks that they not only belong at the next level but can stay there.
