Winnipeg Jets forward Patrik Laine is an elite goalscorer. Now he’s officially a savage troll too.
Friday night, Laine scored his second goal in as many games.
Winnipeg Jets forward Patrik Laine came into tonight’s game against the Kings tied with Alex Ovechkin for the league lead in goals. Not only did Laine finish the night in second place in the Maurice “Rocket” Richard race, but the Finn also came out worse for wear physically.
Laine left the contest in the second period after blocking a shot with his right ankle. He would not return to the game.

Monday night’s matchup between the Caps and the Jets was billed as a showdown between Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy contenders Patrik Laine and Alex Ovechkin.
Heading into the game, the two were tied for a league-leading 40 goals each. Ovechkin scored twice, restoring his sole lead and hitting a milestone 600th goal.
When Ovi found the back of the net for his historic tally, Laine was also on the ice.
The Jets star, who looked up to Ovechkin as a child, gushed about the experience to the media.

The race for the Maurice “Rocket” Richard Trophy is heating back up. On Saturday, Patrik Laine tied Alex Ovechkin for a league-leading 40 goals. For Laine, 22 of those goals have come in 2018 alone. In his last five games he has tallied nine goals, including his fourth career hat trick, making him just the third player to do so before turning 20.
That impressive run landed Laine the NHL’s first star for the week of March 5-11, 2018, and there is little indication that the Winnipeg Jet forward will be slowing down any time soon. With the Caps and Jets clashing Monday night, Ovechkin vs. Laine has been the story of the hour.

One of the most beloved superstars in hockey history, Teemu Selanne, was back in Winnipeg this weekend to participate in the Heritage Alumni Game between the Jets and Oilers. He had a great time.
“Two weeks training and I would be ready for the NHL,” Selanne quipped at the Jets’ alumni practice Friday, according to Finnish reporter Sami Hoffren.
While Selanne was not actually pondering a comeback, he did have some positive things to say about Patrik Laine, the Jets’ new face of the franchise. Selanne believes Laine could break his rookie record of 76 goals.
Team Finland and Team Russia will face off in the World Cup of Hockey on Thursday at 3:00 p.m in Toronto. Finland has already been eliminated after Team North America beat Team Sweden 4-3 in overtime with that absolutely gorgeous goal from Nathan MacKinnon, but for Patrik Laine this game will be another chance to face his idol and our treasure, Caps forward Alex Ovechkin.

In June, Finland’s Patrik Laine will likely be one of the top two selections at the 2016 NHL Draft. On Saturday, the 18-year-old forward helped lead Finland to a 3-1 victory over both Russia and his hockey idol growing up, Alex Ovechkin. Finland will play in the gold medal game tomorrow while the Russians will go for Bronze.
After the game, the top-ranked European-born prospect geeked out about playing against his hockey hero.
