Alex Ovechkin provided a first glimpse of the Washington Capitals rocking their popular Reverse Retro jerseys in the video game NHL 21 on Thursday. EA Sports made the update in a December patch entitled NHL 21 PATCH 1.3.
Nicklas Backstrom can be seen stickhandling with the puck while later Digi Ovi rips a slap shot.
EA Sports continues to publish player ratings in the run-up to the release of NHL 21, which features Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin on the cover.
In this year’s game, Digi John Carlson is the second-best defenseman in the game earning a 91 overall rating. Carly trails only Victor Hedman.
Real-life John finished second in Norris Trophy voting.

Alex Ovechkin is this year’s cover athlete for NHL 21 and for good reason. Like a fine wine, Ovi is getting better with age. And so is his digi double.
After scoring 48 goals and winning his ninth Rocket Richard Trophy, Ovechkin’s overall rating in the video game franchise has improved for the first time in four years. It’s all the more remarkable considering he’s going into his age 35 season.
For hockey fans who preorder NHL 21, EA Sports is offering an intriguing incentive.
“Y’all ready for a throwback? Introducing NHL 94 Rewind 🎮 👀,” @EASPORTSNHL tweeted along with a video featuring a pixelated illustration of Alex Ovechkin. “It’s today’s teams and rosters with controls and graphics from 94.”
Fans will be able to play NHL 94 Rewind on October 30th. It’s unclear if this is a one-day gimmick or something more.
Alex Ovechkin will rock the cover of EA Sports’ latest NHL video game, NHL 21. It’s the second time that Ovechkin has been honored as the cover athlete for the EA Sports franchise.
Ovechkin was revealed as the cover athlete on the new trailer promoting the game, which was first released at 11 AM.
