The Capitals insane comeback win over the Islanders in memes

Last night’s 6-3 victory over the New York Islanders was a rollercoaster of emotions. And once again, the Washington Capitals’ social media leaned on memes to depict the emotions of Caps fans perfectly.

After ending the first period down 3-0, it wasn’t looking good for the Caps, but when they came out for the second period they were ready to show the Isles who was boss. Conor Sheary scored his first pair of goals as a Capital followed by the game-tying goal from Garnet Hathaway. Within three minutes the game was tied.

Capitals fight back against ‘L’ jersey memes with a meme of their own

Last night, the Washington Capitals debuted their new third jerseys against the New York Islanders but fans quickly realized it could bring some unwanted taunting from rival fans.

After first noticing the Capitals’ W-crested alternates, Ottawa Senators fan “The Senagoth” remarked on Twitter that “Lmao I can already see people photoshopping an L on the jersey whenever they lose.”

The Tomas Tatarrrrr guy met Tomas Tatar

When the Montreal Canadiens took on the Vegas Golden Knights on November 10, the game marked Tomas Tatar‘s first matchup against the team that benched him in the Stanley Cup Playoffs. But it was a fan’s pronunciation of his name, not his goal, that went viral.

Sportsnet showed Habs fan Dérek Toulouse in the concourse during the game. The Habs fan pointed at the camera and pronounced Tatar’s name–but his Québécois accent gave it a meme-worthy quality. And thus, Tomas Tatarrrrr Guy was born.

The Winniks met Captain Obvious and of course we memed it

Friday, Daniel Winnik and wife Taylor went to Outside Lands 2017, a three-day music festival held in their hometown of San Francisco. Popular bands like Metallica, The Who, and Royal Blood are headlining the event, but I’d like to point you to who the Winniks ran into at the vendor section.

Oh my god, it’s Captain Obvious.

You guys. It was only a matter of time. The insane Braden Holtby pokecheck of Mitch Marner has been memed.

HF Boards commenter IPW created a GIF (which I may or may not have set to Shooting Stars) of Holtby sliding into and destroying things. The result is tremendous.

With the Caps picked to win it all, we made a video to even out the jinxes (Video)

On Sunday, the Atlanta Falcons blew a 28-3 lead to the New England Patriots in the game’s second half. This crushing playoff loss prompted many on Twitter to label Atlanta as the NFL’s version of the Washington Capitals.

Warriors 🏀, Indians⚾ and Falcons🏈 all blew it. Who’s gonna be the NHL team?

Currently, the Capitals are on top of every major media’s power rankings. NHL coaches, for the second year in a row, are picking the Caps to win the Cup.

But since 2010, the Capitals have twice blown a 3-1 series lead. They were upset in the first round by the Montreal Canadiens after winning the President’s Trophy during the 2009-10 season. The Caps were eliminated in the second round by the eventual Cup champion Pittsburgh Penguins after owning the league’s best regular season record last year.

Joel Ward Is Being Meme’d After Scoring Another Huge Playoff Goal

In the playoffs (minus that one time), Joel Ward is as clutch as that guy who tight-roped over Niagara Falls. He’s as dependable as a Bounty paper towel. He has more moxie than Captain America.

Thursday night, after tallying the game-winning goal with 1.3 seconds left and becoming the third NHL player ever to score a playoffs GWG with two seconds left, adoring Capitals fans started memeing Ward.
