Nicklas Backstrom leaves tiny Backstrom fan close to tears after giving him hockey stick after Blue Jackets’ game

It may no longer be the holiday season, but Nicklas Backstrom was still in a giving mood after the Capitals’ 4-3 overtime victory over the Columbus Blue Jackets on Tuesday. The game was the Capitals’ last for 11 days due to the NHL’s All-Star Weekend and the Caps’ bye week.

As the Swedish center was walking off the ice, Backstrom noticed a kid who was wearing a Capitals jersey and handed him his game-used stick.

That kid’s name is Drew Greenberg. The big Backstrom fan was overwhelmed by the star’s gesture.

Capitals fan in Edmonton cries in excitement after getting what appears to be a Sonny Milano stick

The Washington Capitals had one of their best efforts of the 2022-23 season on Tuesday, firing 50 shots on net in their narrow 3-2 victory over the Edmonton Oilers.

I’m happy to report they also did the right things post-game, too.

Minutes after the game ended, NBC Sports Washington cameras captured Capitals equipment manager Brock Myles handing a blue Bauer stick over the glass to a fan wearing an Alex Ovechkin Reverse Retro jersey.

Their reaction was so pure.

Tom Wilson gives away stick at practice to girl whose family adopted puppy from Wolf Trap Animal Rescue

Tom Wilson went out of his way to do a really nice thing for two young fans who attended the Capitals morning skate on Wednesday.

The top-line winger left the ice to personally give his stick and say hi to another girl who had made signs for him.

Connor McDavid gives Capitals signed stick for Ovi Jr

We all know Alex Ovechkin has a burgeoning hockey stick collection, but now his son is apparently starting one too.

Shortly before Tom Wilson and Evgeny Kuznetsov took the ice for the Metropolitan Division All-Stars, the Washington Capitals posted a photo of a gift Connor McDavid gave them for Sergei Ovechkin.

Alex Ovechkin leaves stick for Sergei Zubov after his jersey retirement ceremony: ‘That’s the one my collection is still missing’

Alex Ovechkin is a huge hockey stick collector and has talked about opening a museum when his playing days are over. One of the biggest payoffs of Ovi’s recent Stanley Cup victory was a game-used stick from Wayne Gretzky.

So when a fellow hockey legend wishes they had a hockey stick from the Capitals captain, Ovechkin feels that want from a personal place.

So with that context, I bring you to the Capitals’ game against the Dallas Stars on Friday.

Capitals fan gifted signed stick from Tom Wilson on her birthday

Tom Wilson just made the birthday of a longtime Capitals fan on his big bobblehead night.

Caps fan Rashelle brought a handmade sign to the Capitals’ morning skate at MedStar Capitals Iceplex on Wednesday. It played off Tom’s number 43.

Tom, it’s my 3-4 birthday. Can I get a signed stick from 4-3?

Ultimately, Tom came through with another horrifying act… of kindness.

An 11-year-old Capitals fan made TJ Oshie a donut sign. Oshie gave him his stick and a warmup puck.

Alex Ovechkin’s pregame ceremony, 701st goal, and shootout game-winner might have gotten all the headlines in the Capitals’ 4-3 win over the Winnipeg Jets on Tuesday, but there was a moment of kindness that happened before all of this.

During pregame warmups, 11-year-old Will Altman held up a sign beside the Capitals bench that read OSHIE HIT THE DONUT. The signed played off a donut bet Oshie won with his young daughter Leni after scoring a goal against the New York Islanders.

Oshie tossed Will a warmup puck and one of his sticks.

Michal Kempny gives hockey stick to tiny Caps fan so he can have perfect Christmas gift for Mom

A professional hockey stick costs hundreds of dollars. So when a player gives one away, it’s always a big deal.

Tuesday, Michal Kempny was asked for his twig by 11-year-old Will Altman at Capitals practice. Will wanted it for a special reason. Michal Kempny was his mom’s favorite hockey player and he wanted to give it to her as a Christmas present.

Kempny sweetly obliged.
